Selma Cortijo
Selma Cortijo graduated in 2012 with a degree in Translation and Interpreting for English and German and also obtained her degree as a sworn translator and interpreter for English from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
Her personal and working life has always been language-oriented, especially English and German, two languages she has grown up with after studying at a bilingual school and later at university.
Selma was not very clear about what she wanted to do professionally, what she did know, and from a very young age, was that her profession would be linked to languages. She remembers wanting to be an archaeologist, as she was fascinated by Egyptian culture, and an international sports journalist, because she joined all the activities offered by the school, until she finally realized that, by studying translation, she could have more job opportunities in any international sector.
Her professional career began as a language teacher in Hannover (Germany) and later in Spain. After a few years, she changed direction and, instead of teaching, she started to manage Spanish courses for foreigners in an international school. This experience opened the door for her to develop her international management and communication skills, dealing with clients from all over the world.
Finally, and after a sabbatical year, Selma arrived at BALDER where she has continued to develop and improve her management and communication skills, this time in the field of European and international patents (a fascinating world from which she learns something new every day, she assures).
In her free time, Selma loves walking in the countryside with her dog Lucas and playing with her four cats (Manoli, Alfredo, Benicia and Mariano). She also enjoys reading and dancing bachata.
