Manuel Chavarriaga

Manuel Chavarriaga Pérez is an accomplished intellectual property attorney with extensive experience advising international clients. Born and raised in Medellín, Colombia, Manuel’s passion for global legal practice was sparked during an academic exchange in Switzerland, leading him to pursue a career in international intellectual property law.

In his third year of law studies, Manuel joined one of the largest IP practices in Colombia, where he spent two years working on international trademark portfolios and projects, specializing in the prosecution of trademarks within the Andean Pact region. This early experience laid the foundation for his expertise in cross-border intellectual property matters.

Manuel later graduated from Duke University School of Law with an LL.M in Intellectual Property, gaining a unique insight into the U.S. legal system. His time at Duke deepened his understanding of American intellectual property law, further enhancing his ability to navigate complex, cross-jurisdictional IP issues. This knowledge enables him to provide strategic advice to international clients, effectively bridging U.S., and Latin American jurisdictions.

In 2020, Manuel joined Balder, where he found the perfect balance between an international environment and his local practice. As the leader of the Colombian practice at Balder, he leverages his expertise in both U.S. and Latin American IP law to advise global clients, particularly those seeking to protect their intellectual property across Latin America.

Outside of his legal career, Manuel enjoys traveling and has a passion for soccer and history.
