Isabela Passau
Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Isabela graduated in law in 2015. Specializing IP law since 2012, her career began as an intern at two renowned IP law firms, one of which hired her as an attorney after graduation. With extensive experience advising international clients, her expertise centers on contracts, trademarks, technology, and copyrights.
In 2016, Isabela moved to Lisbon to pursue a master’s degree (M.Sc.) in IP law, focusing on AI-Generated Works and Copyrights. While in Portugal, she worked at the firm of Prof. José de Oliveira Ascensão. Later, she spent a semester in Germany, conducting part of her research at Ludwig-Maximilian University München, while also working in the trademarks department of a local IP firm.
In 2018, Isabela returned to Brazil to join the largest full-service law firm as an IP and technology associate. There, she expanded her expertise in IP transactions, led key entertainment and advertising initiatives, while improving her business development and team management skills. She was later seconded as legal counsel for product and brand licensing in Latin America, reporting to the US team of a leading global tech entertainment company.
After five years, aiming to deepen her expertise in IP and technology within a common law context, Isabela was accepted into the Technology, Media, and Telecommunications Law LL.M. at Queen Mary University of London, where she earned a distinction for her dissertation on the EU’s AI Act, Copyrights and the Brussels Effect over the US. Soon after she relocated to Madrid, to settle down and began her journey with Balder.
Isabela enjoys exploring new cultures and connecting with people from all over the world. She enjoys sharing knowledge through lectures and has given talks at universities and IP study groups in Europe and Brazil.
She believes that engaging in diverse and creative activities enriches both personal and professional growth. In her spare time, she enjoys surfing, travelling, practicing yoga and playing guitar.
