We are pleased to welcome the newest members of our Associate team!

At BALDER, we take great pride in recognizing the dedication, expertise, and unique journeys of our team members. Today, we celebrate the well-earned promotions of Dr. Carlota Vergas Romero, Sandra Gallego Pato, and Ligia Escalante—three professionals whose diverse paths have enriched our team and contributed to our shared success.

Dr. Carlota Vergas, who holds a PhD in Chemistry, began her career in Intellectual Property over 20 years ago after completing her doctoral research at the Max Planck Institute in Germany. Since then, she has advised major pharmaceutical companies in the drafting, prosecution, and litigation support of patents before the EPO and across Latin America. As a European Patent Attorney fluent in four languages, Carlota brings a unique combination of scientific expertise and legal precision to BALDER’s chemistry and pharma practice.

Sandra Gallego, a chemist by training, has extensive experience in both industry and private practice. After roles in R&D and coordinating an in-house IP department, she transitioned fully into consultancy. Sandra joined BALDER in 2019, is a European and Spanish Patent Attorney, and holds a CEIPI Diploma in European Patent Litigation. Her dual perspective and technical expertise make her a valuable member of our patents team.

Ligia Escalante began her legal career advising domestic and international clients on trademark matters. After completing a Master’s degree in IP and New Technologies in Spain (LLM IP & IT), she focused her work on patent prosecution in Latin America for European clients. A few years ago, she returned to the trademark field and, since then, has been actively contributing to BALDER’s LATAM Trademark Department, applying her binational legal knowledge, especially in Mexican law, to support cross-border strategies.
