A measure that will accelerate patent applications in the Caribbean country

The Accelerated Patent Grant Program established between the National Industrial Property Office of the Dominican Republic (ONAPI) and the USPTO allows a patent applicant in the Dominican Republic who holds a patent granted by the USPTO to request ONAPI to expedite the grant of his or her application.

To apply for the Accelerated Grant Program, ONAPI has recently published guidelines detailing the process by which US patent holders can benefit from this Program. These guidelines are part of a user manual available in Spanish on ONAPI’s official website.

This USPTO-ONAPI work-sharing program began in April 2024 and will continue for five years.
