Bringing more than 30 years of experience in intellectual property and commercial law, Bercovitz will further strengthen the firm's capabilities in complex litigation, strategic legal counsel, and dispute resolution.

BALDER welcomes Raúl Bercovitz Álvarez as Of Counsel, marking another step in the continued expansion of its IP litigation and dispute resolution practice.

With more than three decades of legal experience, Bercovitz brings extensive expertise in intellectual property, commercial law, and complex disputes. He has advised and represented Spanish and international companies in matters involving patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright, and unfair competition, handling proceedings before Spanish and European courts, as well as the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

His practice extends beyond litigation to include pre-litigation strategy, contract negotiations, technology transfer and licensing, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution.

Before joining BALDER, Bercovitz was a partner at Santiago Mediano, where he focused on intellectual property, litigation, and arbitration. He previously served as Of Counsel in the Madrid IP practice of Bird & Bird and spent nearly two decades at Alberto Bercovitz Abogados.

Alongside his legal practice, Bercovitz has maintained a strong presence in the academic and institutional IP community. He served as President of the Spanish Group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) from 2009 to 2013 and currently serves as an arbitrator at the Madrid Bar Association's Court of Arbitration. He is also included on the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Center's list of independent mediators.

His academic background includes a law degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, a Ph.D. in Law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and an LL.M. from Columbia University in New York. He has also taught Commercial Law at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and regularly lectures at universities and specialized IP institutions.

In his new role, Bercovitz will work closely with BALDER's legal and technical teams on complex, strategically significant matters, including patent, trademark, and design litigation; unfair competition; copyright; contracts and licensing; and dispute resolution.

Patricia Koch, Partner at BALDER, commented:

"Raúl's arrival marks an important step for BALDER, particularly as we continue to expand our litigation practice. The volume and complexity of disputes we handle for global clients have increased significantly in recent years, and strengthening our capabilities in this area remains a priority. His extensive experience, academic background, and standing in the IP community will help us further advance our litigation practice and the services we deliver to our clients."

Óscar García, Partner at BALDER, added:

"Raúl brings an exceptional combination of practical experience, legal expertise, and strategic insight. His background is a natural complement to BALDER's technical strengths and international outlook, enhancing our ability to support clients in particularly complex matters, from preventive legal advice to defending their rights before the courts."

Bercovitz's arrival brings another perspective to BALDER's multidisciplinary team, strengthening the connection between technical expertise, legal strategy, and effective IP enforcement.
