BALDER Expands in Northern Spain with New Office in Santander

This move reflects rising demand for high-quality patent and trademark expertise

As part of its ongoing growth, leading intellectual property firm BALDER has opened a new office in Santander, strengthening its presence across northern Spain. Santander now joins Bilbao as a key northern hub for the firm’s regional operations.

Founded in 2012 with just nine professionals, the company has grown to 105 team members and reported revenues of €27.5 million in 2024—an 11.6% increase from the prior year.

The new office will be led by Elena Alonso, a European Patent Attorney and telecommunications engineer with more than two decades of experience. Her expertise spans telecommunications, optical communications, data networks, semiconductors, and innovations based on software, mathematical models, and AI.

“The Santander office responds directly to the demand for closer, personalized technical-legal advice to protect high-value innovations,” Alonso explained.

With this move, the firm becomes the first in Santander to offer European patent representation locally—setting a new benchmark for the region’s innovators, research centers, and technology institutions.

Headquartered in Madrid, the company also operates in Barcelona, Bilbao, and across Latin America (Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, and Argentina). Its multicultural team of more than 16 nationalities speaks 12 languages and works through a hybrid model that blends in-person collaboration with global reach.
